More details on first-known Evora crash

evoratouaregcrashA report from Get Surrey reveals this photo on the right and more details on the first-known Lotus Evora crash earlier this month in the UK.

While unconfirmed, sources indicate the red Evora and blue Audi A4 Avant were engaged in a mobile photo shoot for an unknown publication with a photographer leaning out the back of the Audi. Apparently, the Audi was forced to brake hard and the close-following Evora was not prepared for this unexpected deceleration.

Thankfully, the injuries are minor, with the Lotus driver only suffering an injured wrist. No one in the Audi is believed to be injured.

Police closed the road for a short amount of time while the road was cleared.

Smithbrook Cottages resident Trevor Free was home at the time when he heard the sound of the crash.

It was a nasty crash – these cars must have been going far too fast. I was very pleased that the guy in the Lotus wasn’t killed, but how he got out of it I don’t know.

This isn’t the first time a serious road incident has occurred on the stretch of road between Smithbrook Kilns and Smithbrook Gate, located along the A281 near Cranleigh, says Free:

It was yet another high speed accident…

It’s a very dangerous stretch of road – they must put some double white lines down the middle of the road.

It’s not only the speed – it’s the fact that people are prepared to take chances with overtaking

This is the fifth occasion in about two years we have had a near fatal accident.

Although the speed limit was recently reduced to 40 MPH, Free says some motorists still drive too fast. Free is trying to raise the issue with the Surrey County Council’s Waverly Local Committee and is also seeking more policing of the road from the Surrey Police.
